The Second Engineer is second-in-charge of the engine department, reporting directly to the Chief Engineer. Responsible for the daily operation, watchkeeping, maintenance, and safe running of main and auxiliary machinery in full compliance with SOLAS, MARPOL, ISM, and company procedures.

Requirements:

• Minimum 1 year in a 2/E rank
• RT Flex experience in a 2/E rank is a MUST
• Confirmation to work in the HRA – SOH area.

Characteristics & skills:

• Safety-first mindset with a strong commitment to the Safety Management System, permit-to-work, risk assessment and enclosed-space entry discipline — critical on chemical tankers where cargo hazards are severe.
• Reliable and calm under pressure, with sound judgement during machinery breakdowns, blackouts and emergencies. Methodical, well-organised and thorough in planning maintenance and managing workload during port and sea passages.
• Effective leadership and team management: able to supervise, train and motivate engine ratings and junior engineers, delegate clearly and maintain department morale on long voyages.
• Good communication and reporting skills, comfortable liaising with the Chief Engineer, deck department, superintendents and inspectors, with solid technical English (working language on board).
• Attention to detail in record-keeping and environmental compliance, physically fit for engine-room conditions, adaptable to a multinational crew, and holding high standards of integrity and professionalism.

High-Risk Area Bonuses

The vessel may trade in high-risk areas. These bonuses apply:

Strait of Hormuz: 2.5 full wages transit in, 2.5 full wages transit out

Fujairah: 2 basic salaries + IBF
Sohar: 2 basic salaries + IBF
Duqm: 2 basic salaries + IBF
Gulf of Aden: 3 basic salaries + IBF
